Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about me, Louise Pike.

Hi, I'm Jennifer from Brisbane, Australia and we are studying Harriet Huxtable and the purpose of rats. I'm the investigator and I need to know Where you were born and anything special about books in your life. Can you tell me?

You might find where I was born by reading below.

Books have always been an important part of my life. When I was a child, I read all the time. Now I read whenever I have time, but I try to at least read a little bit every day.

Some of the books that have been special to me include Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries, Enid Blyton books - especially The Magic Faraway Tree, anything by Morris Gleitzman - especially Water Wings, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and just about any mystery story I could get my hands on!

One of my favourite books at the moment is actually a picture book. It's called Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear. It's pretty special.

I'm doing a school project on you because I really like your books and I was wondering if you could answer some questions?

Hi Stevie. If you can't find all the information you need here, simply send me some more questions by using the "Ask A Question" function, and I'll answer them for you. Louise

What do you do for a living?

As well as writing books, I work in a library.

Where did you go to school? Did you go to Uni? When and where were you born?

I went to Walford in Adelaide. I started Uni, but didn't finish it. I was born in 1968 in Adelaide.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have two labrador dogs, one black female called Angel and a gold male called Bradman.

Do you have any other pets than the labradors?

Yes, we also have two rabbits, seven guinea pigs and two fish. Lots of mouths to feed!

How old are you? When were you born?

I am 38 years old. I was born on April 28th, 1968.

Where were you born?

I was born at Burnside in Adelaide.

With all those animals, did that encourage you to write the book Harriet Huxtable and the Purpose of Rats?

That certainly played a part in the idea for the book. I wanted to involve animals, and also my character's love for animals.

Do you have any daughters or sons?

Yes, I have two daughters. Amanda is 18 years old and Joanna is 14.

Do you like eating candy and chocolate?

Unfortunately I love eating candy and chocolate. I eat way too much of it. I have a secret stash, just like Harriet's mum, although mine's in a drawer rather than under the bed.

Have you ever lived in Winsor England?

No, I haven't! I've only ever lived in Australia.

Where do you live? How long have you been writing for? What are some interesting facts about you? What inspired your writing?

Hello Alana and Sophie. I live in Adelaide, but when I started writing, I lived on Kangaroo Island.

I have been writing for about 6 years.

Lots of things inspire my writing: sometimes I hear wonderful snippets of information and think what a great idea for a story. Or, I see people around me, including my family, who have strange and quirky characteristics, and I decide to use those things to invent my own characters. I seem to always be having fun and adventures in my imagination, and these are the things that I turn into stories.

Hmm ... interesting facts about me ...

  • Well, my favourite food is pizza, and my favourite animal is a dog.
  • I love nature and wildlife, and I'm a vegetarian.
  • I like ten-pin bowling, but I'm hopeless at any other sport that involves a ball, like netball or basketball (I'm scared of the ball).
  • I don't like cooking, but love eating out.
  • I get up very early, usually 5am, and take my dogs for a walk, but I'm often in bed by 9pm.
  • My favourite books when I was a child were Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries. Now I read lots and lots of stuff - thrillers, non-fiction, all sorts of children's books, newspapers, journals and magazines. My favourite book of all time is ... the Thesaurus. And my second favourite book is the Dictionary.
  • I love watching The Block, but I don't like any other reality television.
